Our Vision & Dedication

At EARS clinics, we are dedicated to providing patient centred, medically qualified, specialist ear healthcare services that adhere to the highest standards. With a foundation built on over twenty-five years of experience within the NHS framework, our team brings a deep understanding of the evolving needs and trends in healthcare. In recent years, we have observed significant changes in the treatment and demand for ear wax removal, with Microsuction and Irrigation emerging as the preferred methods aligned with NICE guidelines and NHS best practices.

Our role extends beyond treatment; we are national trainers, delivering courses that uphold the highest standards. As such, professionals in both NHS and regulated private clinics performing these procedures are ideally trained by us for the highest standards of care.

Ear Irrigation & Instrumentation Course Overview

Our one-day Ear Irrigation & Instrumentation Course is designed to provide an optimal learning experience through small group instruction. This well-established and respected course is underpinned by comprehensive protocols recognised in the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guidelines.

Course Content:

This course offers a thorough grounding in both theoretical and practical aspects of Ear Irrigation & Instrumentation, including:

  • Anatomy and Physiology of the Ear: Gain a deep understanding of the ear's structure and function.

  • Common Ear Pathologies: Learn to identify and manage common ear conditions, including recognising red flags that require specialist care.

  • Patient Assessment: Master the skills necessary for thorough and effective patient evaluation.

  • Ear Examination: Conduct ear examinations in accordance with otoscopy guidelines.

  • Principles of Irrigation & Instrumentation: Understand the foundational principles that guide the Irrigation & Instrumentation procedure.

Practical Session:

Following the theoretical component, participants will engage in a hands-on practical session in a clinical setting, using practice training heads. This session provides the opportunity to:

  • Equipment Familiarisation: Identify, discuss, and utilise the appropriate equipment required for the Irrigation & Instrumentation procedure.

  • Supervised Practice: Gain confidence in performing the Irrigation & Instrumentation procedure under expert supervision.

  • Infection Control: Discuss and implement infection control measures to ensure safe and effective practice.

Important Considerations

For health professionals new to Ear Irrigation & Instrumentation, The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust emphasises that for legal and ethical reasons, it is essential to initially practice the procedure on training heads.

Competence in clinical skills, such as Ear Irrigation & Instrumentation, is achieved through consistent practice. It is strongly recommended that all course participants seek additional supervised Practical Study Day training from an experienced practitioner who is competent in the procedure after completing the course.

Course Materials and Certification

  • Clinical Competency Record Booklet: All course attendees will receive a Clinical Competency Record Booklet. While registered health professionals can self-certify, we recommend working through the booklet and retaining it as a record to demonstrate due diligence. This booklet can also be included in your Continued Professional Development (CPD) record.
